In the village of Givskud you will find the beautiful medieval church, Givskud Church.
The oldest parts of the whitewashed church were built in Romanesque times.
Like most medieval churches, Givskud Church originally had two entrance doors, located to the north and south at the western end of the nave. The north door is now walled up, but can still be faintly seen from the outside. The southern door opposite is still in use, albeit in a remodeled version.
The church's oldest piece of furniture is the Romanesque baptismal font, which is decorated with carved lions.
The village of Givskud is probably best known for Givskud Zoo, so if you want to see lions in real life, Givskud Zoo is just a short walk away.
In the spring of 2018, VejleMuseerne carried out an archaeological excavation of the area that is today the church's parking lot. The excavation revealed traces of settlement from the late Viking Age and early Middle Ages - both from before and after the church was built. In the small area, there have been at least 8 houses in the period approx. 950-1250 AD. You can read more about the excavation and the findings on the information board in the parking lot.
